how do you do it??

Hello everybody. I'm doing a piece of work on non-hierarchical organisations and I would like to use The Common Place as an example. I was hoping to come and see for myself but am nowhere near Leeds and probably shan't make it before my deadline.

Could anyone tell me a bit more about th Thursday meetings:-  How easy is it to reach consensus? what sort of issues take the most work?  How do you deal with it if certain people challenge for challenge's sake? Do all the action points identified get followed up? If so is it always by a core of (how many?) committed members?  If responsibility is taken more widely, how do you sustain motivation/commitment? Are the directors the same people who founded the club? what happens if someone who perhaps considers themselves a 'natural' leader blasts in and tries to take control? what are the biggest successes and challenges experienced so far?

I have dozens more questions and am reining myself in! Thanks loads for your time and good luck with your wonderful work!

Hello...
We're setting up a social centre in Wiltshire, on major road links from London to the SouthWest. I was wondering if you could help us gather materials for our infoshop, and if y'all had any knowledge of power generation? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Be good!

Burlesque performers at a 'radical' centre...?

From wikipedia:

"Burlesque turns social norms head over heels"

Really? Let's see...

"In burlesque, performers [are] usually female"

"The costuming (or lack thereof) increasingly focused on forms of dress considered inappropriate for polite society. By the 1880s, the genre had created some rules for defining itself:

Minimal costuming, often focusing on the female form. Sexually suggestive dialogue, dance, plotlines and staging"

OK - maybe radical in the 1880s, guys, but in what way is it now differentiated from consumer capitalism's exploitative raunch culture sufficiently to have value in an 'autonomous radical social centre'?

*Apart* from that - all looks good from your website and makes me want to join / drop in!

Number of members at meetings
It would be helpful to know, when reading the minutes, how many members were present at the meeting
