Medact speaks
out for countless people across the globe whose health, wellbeing and
access to proper health care are severely compromised by the effects of
war, poverty and environmental damage.
- Medact
is a global health charity tackling issues at the centre of
international policy debates. Led by its health professional membership
it undertakes education, research and advocacy on the health
implications of conflict, development and environmental change, with a
special focus on the developing world.
The West Yorkshire group has been set up to take forward some of these campaigns at a local level. Our first two campaigns are now underway:
- Defending Access to Healthcare. The UK government is consulting on a proposal to make it impossible for refused asylum seekers and undocumented migrants to use the NHS. We think this is a bad idea.
- Climate, Environment and Health. The health impacts of environmental damage are huge, especially the effects of global warming. So let's get the NHS to reduce its emissions...
